The Top Five Mountain House Flavors
After a long day of hiking, portaging, and/or traversing, nothing tastes better than a good ol’ bag of mush. I’m talking about Mountain House. Besides the fact that it is a steaming packet of nutrients for your body, it’s fun to knead the scalding pouch like a cat to keep warm.
Based on empirical evidence, the following are the top five best Mountain House food sacks:
5. Chicken Teriyaki - This one is alright on its own. It gets much better when you add it as a filler to your fish tacos (that you caught in the wild with your bare hands, look at you).
4. Breakfast Skillet - This comes with a caveat. By itself, the breakfast skillet is underwhelming, and a little too much of a breakfast goop salad. HOWEVER, when placed in a tortilla with hot sauce, it is a meal transformed. Highly recommend on a brisk morning with a cup of gritty cowboy coffee.
3. Biscuits & Gravy - I mean, you could just throw biscuits and gravy into a blender and I would drink it. This is essentially that, but with chunks. Not bad.
2. Beef Stroganoff - I had a religious experience while hunkered over a baglet of beef stroganoff once. It was after a long day of rafting and my uncles were trying to claim that the serving size per bag was 1.5, meaning I should leave a third of the portion for others. I opened my jaw and chugged it in front of their faces.
1. Lasagna - This one just is the best. I’m not giving you any reasons.
